on
Date: Friday, 27th December 2002
Time: 1400 - 1500 hrs
Venue: S4-05-10
Synopsis:
Using in-vitro wound healing models to investigate
the extract for wound healing from plant named Chromoleana odorata,
it was found that this plant extract has effects that enhance wound
healing; stimulate cell proliferation, migration and deposition
of essential molecules and act as an antioxidant. A mixture of phenolic
compounds was identified in the extract and these proved to have
antioxidant effects.
Among the dietary substances screened, Quercetin was also shown
to be most effective on in vitro skin cell cutures for the treatment
of keloids and hypertrophic scars by blocking two major pro-fibrotic
systems, inhibition of keloid fibroblast proliferation and production
of collagen and matrix, inhibition of wound contraction.
